Keppetipola Statue & Fort

Culture / History

A statue of Monarawila Keppetipola Nilame has been constructed in this place for the memory of the land where the Sinhala battle troop joined with Monarawila Keppetipola Disawa who was appointed by British to control the riot started by the Sinhalese in 1818 against British rulers. There is a building, a special construction which gives certain idea on the activities done by the British in this area by the British rulers. Even though it was called as the “Keppetipola Fort” by someone, it is considered as the stable used by the British rulers. This is situated in the junction where Welimada – Nuwaraeliya Road, Bogaha kumbura Road and Keppetipola meets.
